Get Your Mind Right

Self-care practices and the mind-body connection is crucial in your pursuit of a fitter life. Here are three practices to adopt:

  1. Unlock Breath Work + Meditation Routine: Breath has a direct correlation to your central nervous system. Gaining control of your CNS is crucial for both athletic performance and navigating everyday life. If we can master our minds and train our bodies to transition into a parasympathetic state, we can do anything — really

  1. Create Community: Surrounding yourself with likeminded goal chasers could likely be your missing link. There are thousands of great athletes, which great talent, and great discipline, but they sorely lack a strong social circle. Find your people, chase your goals, and have some fun. An Oxford study found that people can work out up to 200% harder in group or paired settings compared to a solo session. Group fitness participants also undergo 26% less stress compared to individuals.

  1. Get Better Sleep: It plays a bigger role than you’d think. According to the National Sleep Foundation, people with insomnia are 10x more likely to develop depression and 75% of people with depression experience frequent sleep disturbances. Just one single night of poor sleep can increase the following day’s anxiety level by 30%.  Sleep plays a crucial role in hormone regulation, muscle recovery, and helps detox the brain from toxins at night. Set the stage for a good night’s sleep by keeping your room cool, dark and quiet. Quit the phone at least an hour before hitting the pillow and stop eating three hours before. If you decide to focus on anything this year, make it sleep.
